Target Information
Corticosterone, also known as 17-deoxycortisol and 11β,21-dihydroxyprogesterone, is a primary glucocorticoid in many species, including amphibians, reptiles, rodents, and birds. It plays a crucial role in regulating energy, immune responses, and stress reactions. In rodents, corticosterone serves as the main glucocorticoid. Corticosterone plays a key role in the stress response of rabbits. When rabbits experience stress or strain, the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis (HPA axis) is activated, leading to an increase in corticosterone production. This increased corticosterone level can inhibit the secretion of gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH), which inhibits the release of gonadal hormones, which may have an effect on reproductive function in some cases.
