Target Information
Fibroblast growth factor receptor 3 (FGFR3) is a tyrosine-protein kinase that functions as a cell-surface receptor for fibroblast growth factors, playing a crucial role in regulating cell proliferation, differentiation, and apoptosis. It is vital for chondrocyte differentiation, proliferation, and apoptosis, as well as normal skeletal development. FGFR3 regulates osteogenesis and postnatal bone mineralization by osteoblasts. While it promotes apoptosis in chondrocytes, it can also enhance cancer cell proliferation. FGFR3 is important in bone development, with studies indicating a unique expression pattern during embryonic development. For instance, FGFR3 is highly expressed in the neural tube of mouse embryos at a specific developmental stage (9.5 to 16.5 days) and primarily found in the cartilage matrix of adult mouse bones.
