Hsp90aa1 is a molecular chaperone that facilitates the maturation, structural maintenance, and proper regulation of specific target proteins, such as those involved in cell cycle control and signal transduction. Its function is closely tied to its ATPase activity, which is crucial for its chaperone role, likely inducing conformational changes in client proteins to activate them. Hsp90aa1 interacts with various co-chaperones that influence its substrate recognition, ATPase cycle, and overall chaperone function. In mice, HSP90AA1 is critical for the reproductive system. In the testis, its absence leads to impaired spermatogenesis, characterized by an arrest at the pachytene stage of meiosis. Additionally, loss of HSP90AA1 in mice results in immune system dysfunction, including abnormal development of T and B cells.
