Specifications
Target Information
Rat milk fat globule EGF factor 8 (MFG-E8, lactadherin) is a 46-kDa secreted glycoprotein expressed in rat mammary glands, macrophages, and intestinal epithelial cells. It features EGF-like domains and integrin-binding RGD motifs, mediating phagocytosis of apoptotic cells by macrophages to resolve inflammation. It also regulates intestinal mucosal barrier integrity, promotes epithelial cell repair, and supports milk fat globule stabilization during lactation. Ubiquitous in rat tissues like spleen, liver, and mammary tissue, it links tissue homeostasis, inflammation resolution, and reproductive physiology. As a multifunctional mediator of phagocytosis and mucosal protection, rat MFG-E8 is a critical target for studying inflammatory disorders, intestinal barrier dysfunction, and lactation-related mechanisms.
