Target Information

Mouse metallothionein 1 (MT1) is a 7-kDa cysteine-rich protein ubiquitously expressed in mouse tissues-with high levels in liver, kidney, and intestinal mucosa. It binds heavy metals (zinc, copper, cadmium) via thiol groups, regulating metal homeostasis and protecting cells from oxidative stress. It also modulates inflammatory responses and supports tissue repair by scavenging reactive oxygen species. Inducible by metal exposure, stress, and inflammation, it maintains cellular integrity in physiological and pathological contexts. As a key mediator of metal metabolism and oxidative stress defense, mouse MT1 is a critical target for studying heavy metal toxicity, oxidative damage-related disorders, and inflammatory pathologies.
