Target Information

Mouse Phospholipase A2, Group IIa (PLA2G2A) is a secreted calcium-dependent enzyme that hydrolyzes the sn-2 ester of membrane phospholipids, releasing arachidonic acid and lysophospholipids. These products are precursors for eicosanoids and platelet-activating factor, linking PLA2G2A to inflammation, lipid mediator production, and host defense. The enzyme is expressed in macrophages, Paneth cells, and synovium, and associates with extracellular matrix, concentrating catalytic activity at cell surfaces. As a key regulator of lipid signaling and inflammatory responses, PLA2G2A is an important target for studies of arthritis, atherosclerosis, and innate immunity.
