Rat glucocorticoid receptor (GR) is an 86 kDa ligand-activated transcription factor whose C-terminal helix 12 folds over the hormone pocket, while an exposed "hinge" epitope (aa 550-565) emerges only when the receptor is DNA-bound. A solvent-accessible phospho-serine cluster within this hinge is unique among nuclear receptors, providing a fixation-stable target absent from MR or PR.
