Target Information
Mouse Lysosomal-Associated Membrane Protein 2 (LAMP-2) is a heavily glycosylated, type I trans-membrane protein that coats the inner leaflet of lysosomes and late endosomes, protecting the membrane from proteolytic attack while maintaining acidic hydrolase compartmentalization. Its large lumenal domain binds cholesterol and participates in chaperone-mediated autophagy by directly recognizing KFERQ-motif cytosolic proteins. Constitutive yet inducible expression in liver, kidney, and heart makes LAMP-2 a reliable lysosomal marker. Antibodies to LAMP-2 enable precise visualization of lysosomal compartments and quantitative assessment of autophagic flux in mouse development, metabolic, and neurodegeneration models without cross-reactivity to LAMP-1 or other membrane proteins.
