Mouse galectin-8 is a 34 kDa tandem-repeat lectin that targets β-galactoside glycans on cell-surface glycoproteins and extracellular matrix components. Binding cross-links receptors and integrins, modulating adhesion, migration, and immune signaling while retaining fibrinolytic and antimicrobial activity. Its two carbohydrate-recognition domains present unique, species-restricted epitopes ideal for antibody generation; anti-galectin-8 immunoreagents detect soluble and matrix-associated protein in serum, tissue lysates, and fixed sections without cross-reacting with other galectins, providing a precise read-out of glycoimmune regulation and matrix remodeling.
