Target Information
Mouse fibroblast growth factor 21 (FGF21) is a 20-kDa secreted metabolic hormone predominantly expressed in murine liver, adipose tissue, and skeletal muscle. It signals via FGFR1/β-Klotho co-receptor complexes, activating downstream pathways to regulate glucose/lipid metabolism, energy expenditure, and ketogenesis. Critical for murine metabolic homeostasis, it enhances insulin sensitivity, promotes fatty acid oxidation, and mitigates obesity-induced metabolic dysfunction. Dysregulated expression associates with type 2 diabetes, non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, and obesity in murine models. As a key mediator of systemic metabolic regulation, mouse FGF21 is a critical target for studying metabolic pathobiology and developing therapeutics for metabolic syndrome and related disorders.
