Mouse CD1d is a non-polymorphic MHC class I-like glycoprotein that presents lipid antigens to NKT cells. Constitutively expressed on antigen-presenting cells and some epithelia, it enables the rapid release of cytokines central to innate-adaptive immune crosstalk. Detection with specific antibody provides a precise tool for mapping lipid-presenting compartments and monitoring NKT-cell activation in development, infection and metabolic disease models.
