Target Information

Rat von Hippel-Lindau Tumor Suppressor (VHL) is an E3 ubiquitin ligase that targets hypoxia-inducible factor (HIF) for proteasomal degradation under normoxic conditions. It is widely expressed in kidney, liver, and brain, where it regulates oxygen sensing, angiogenesis, and energy metabolism. Loss of VHL function leads to accumulation of HIF and activation of hypoxic response genes, promoting tumorigenesis and vascular abnormalities. As a critical regulator of oxygen homeostasis, VHL is an important target for studies of hypoxia, cancer, and metabolic disorders.
