Target Information

Mouse α-Tocopherol Transfer Protein (α-TTP) is a 32 kDa cytosolic lipid-binding protein expressed primarily in liver and brain. It selectively binds α-tocopherol, the most biologically active form of vitamin E, and facilitates its transfer into nascent very-low-density lipoproteins for systemic delivery. α-TTP protects membranes from oxidative damage by preserving vitamin E levels and modulates lipid metabolism. Mutations in α-TTP cause vitamin E deficiency and neurodegeneration. As the key regulator of vitamin E homeostasis, α-TTP is an important target for studies of oxidative stress, lipid transport, and neuroprotection.
