Target Information
Rat Cluster of Differentiation 36 (CD36) is a trans-membrane glycoprotein that functions as a multi-ligand scavenger receptor on platelets, adipocytes, macrophages and micro-vascular endothelium. Its extracellular loops bind long-chain fatty acids, oxidized phospholipids, thrombospondin-1 and apoptotic cells, thereby coordinating lipid uptake, platelet activation and phagocytic clearance. CD36 signals through src-family and MAPK cascades to modulate foam-cell formation, insulin sensitivity and angiogenesis. Constitutive yet inducible expression in heart, lung and spleen makes it a reliable marker for metabolic and inflammatory studies. Antibodies to rat CD36 enable precise membrane localization and functional analysis in atherosclerosis, obesity and ischemia models without cross-reactivity to other scavenger receptors.
