Target Information

Synapsin-2 is a neuronal phosphoprotein that coats synaptic vesicles, associates with the cytoskeleton, and is thought to regulate neurotransmitter release. It may also contribute to noradrenaline secretion by sympathetic neurons. In mice, SYN2 plays a multifaceted role in neuronal function and nervous system health. It is essential for synaptic function and neural plasticity and is linked to various neuropathological conditions, including epilepsy, ASD, neurodegenerative diseases, and cognitive dysfunction. Mice deficient in SYN2 display severe ASD-like behaviors, such as social behavior disorders, altered ultrasonic vocalizations, and impaired functional connectivity in the auditory cortex. These behaviors may stem from disrupted synaptic function and abnormal neural network connectivity.
