Target Information

Apolipoprotein A-V is a minor apolipoprotein primarily found in association with HDL and, to a lesser extent, with VLDL, and it may also associate with chylomicrons. It is a key factor in determining plasma triglyceride (TG) levels, serving as a potent stimulator of apo-CII lipoprotein lipase (LPL) TG hydrolysis and as an inhibitor of hepatic VLDL-TG production, without impacting VLDL-apoB production. In mice, the deletion or loss of function of the Apoa5 gene results in a significant rise in plasma triglyceride levels, whereas overexpression of Apoa5 leads to a reduction in these levels. Apoa5 lowers plasma triglyceride levels by promoting the hydrolysis of TG-rich lipoproteins, such as very low-density lipoproteins (VLDL), by stimulating LPL-mediated TG hydrolysis and accelerating the clearance of these lipoproteins.
