Target Information
The succinate dehydrogenase cytochrome b560 subunit is a membrane-anchoring component of succinate dehydrogenase (SDH), which is involved in complex II of the mitochondrial electron transport chain. It plays a crucial role in transferring electrons from succinate to ubiquinone (coenzyme Q). In a chronic alveolar emphysema (COPD) model, mice with a knockout of the SDHC gene exhibited a marked reduction in mitochondrial respiratory chain complex II activity in skeletal muscle cells, while complex I function remained intact. This impairment of complex II function led to a decreased oxygen consumption rate (OCR) in skeletal muscle cells and significantly reduced contractile capacity in oxidative muscle fibers, whereas the function of glycolytic-related muscle fibers was unaffected.
