Target Information
Fibromodulin is encoded by the FMOD gene in pigs. FMOD, a small 59 kD leucine-rich proteoglycan critical for normal collagen fibrillogenesis, can significantly reduce scar formation while increasing scar strength in both adult rodent models and porcine wounds. Fibromodulin can have up to four N-linked keratan sulfate chains attached to its core protein within the leucine-rich region. It shares significant sequence homology with other SLRPs like biglycan and decorin.
