Target Information

Pentraxin-related protein PTX3 is involved in regulating innate resistance to pathogens, inflammatory reactions, possibly the clearance of self-components, and female fertility. In mice, PTX3 has diverse biological functions, including modulating inflammatory responses, protecting the cardiovascular system, promoting tissue repair, influencing bone metabolism, and participating in immune regulation. As a pattern recognition receptor belonging to the pentapeptide protein family, PTX3 exhibits both pro-inflammatory and anti-inflammatory effects. Research indicates that PTX3 plays a crucial role in acute inflammation by interacting with the complement and coagulation systems. For instance, in the intestinal ischemia-reperfusion model, the absence of PTX3 resulted in increased local and distant tissue damage, whereas its overexpression mitigated the inflammatory response. Furthermore, PTX3 regulates the TLR4/NF-κB signaling pathway to inhibit LPS-induced inflammatory responses.
