Target Information

Calcitonin gene-related peptide 1 is encoded by the PCT gene in horses. It is also known as procalcitonin. It is produced by many types of cells in the body. A high level of procalcitonin in the blood may be a sign of a serious infection or sepsis. It is a member of the CGRPs, which are pleiotropic neuropeptides found in the central and peripheral nervous systems and also in thyroid C-cells.
