Target Information

Lipoteichoic acids (LTA) are a major constituent of the cell wall of gram-positive bacteria. They are polymers of repeating phosphodiester-linked polyols and may contain long chains of ribitol or glycerol phosphate. In bovine primary mammary epithelial cells, the limited and unsustained cytokine response to LTA may explain why mastitis caused by gram-positive bacteria has greater potential for chronic intra-mammary infection than gram-negative infection.
