Target Information
The vitamin D3 receptor (VDR) is a nuclear receptor for calcitriol, the active form of vitamin D3, which mediates the effects of this vitamin within cells. Upon binding vitamin D3, VDR enters the nucleus and forms heterodimers with the retinoid X receptor (RXR). In mice, VDR plays roles in various processes, including immune regulation, bone metabolism, inflammatory response, and cell differentiation. The active form of vitamin D3, 1,25-dihydroxyvitamin D3 (1,25(OH)2D3), significantly impacts the immune system through its interaction with VDR. For instance, research has demonstrated that 1,25(OH)2D3 can directly inhibit the expression of IL-17A in Th17 cells through VDR-mediated transcriptional inhibition.
