Target Information
SOCS family proteins are integral to a classic negative feedback system that regulates cytokine signal transduction. SOCS3, in particular, negatively regulates cytokines signaling through the JAK/STAT pathway. It inhibits cytokine signal transduction by binding to various tyrosine kinase receptors, including IL6ST/gp130, LIF, erythropoietin, insulin, IL12, GCSF, and leptin receptors. In mice, SOCS3 has extensive and complex functions, encompassing embryonic development, immune regulation, metabolic balance, cardiovascular health, and tumorigenesis. It plays a crucial role in embryonic development and placenta formation. Mice lacking SOCS3 experience placental development defects during the embryonic period, characterized by a decrease in trophoblast cells, an increase in giant cell trophoblast cells, and poor vascular network development, resulting in embryonic death between days 11 and 13 of gestation.
