Target Information
Phosphatidylinositol (or inositol phospholipid, abbreviation PtdIns) is a glycerophospholipid that contains a glycerol backbone, two non-polar fatty acid tails, a phosphate group substituted with an inositol polar head group. The phosphate group carries a negative charge, making the molecule amphiphilic (both hydrophilic and hydrophobic). It serves as a precursor for several signaling molecules. It plays a role in cellular processes such as: cell growth, differentiation, cell motility, apoptosis, and transcription.
