Target Information
Peroxisomal N(1)-acetyl-spermine/spermidine oxidase is a flavoenzyme responsible for converting N1-acetylspermine into spermidine, playing a critical role in polyamine back-conversion. In mice, PAOX primarily regulates polyamine metabolism, impacting cellular oxidative balance and inflammatory responses, and is linked to the onset and progression of various diseases. In mouse models of intervertebral disc degeneration (IDD), increased PAOX expression is identified as a key factor accelerating disease progression. Long-term spermine supplementation can effectively reduce PAOX upregulation, thereby diminishing oxidative stress and slowing IDD progression.
