Target Information

Transthyretin is a protein that binds thyroid hormones. Known as TTR or TBPA, it functions as a transport protein found in both plasma and cerebrospinal fluid, where it carries the thyroid hormone thyroxine (T4) and retinol to the liver. It is believed to facilitate the transport of thyroxine from the bloodstream to the brain. In a rabbit model, the mRNA of TTR serves as an anti-acute phase reactant within ocular tissues. In rabbits, the research on TTR mainly focuses on its relationship with thyroid hormone transport. For example, studies have shown that rabbits have higher expression levels in pituitary gland, which may be related to its critical role in thyroid hormone transport.
