Target Information
Lysosomal acid lipase/cholesteryl ester hydrolase is an enzyme that catalyzes the deacylation of cholesteryl ester core lipids from endocytosed low-density lipoproteins, producing free fatty acids and cholesterol. It hydrolyzes triglycerides (1,2,3-triacylglycerol) and diglycerides (such as 1,2-diacylglycerol and 1,3-diacylglycerol), showing a preference for the acyl groups at the sn-1 or sn-3 positions. In mice, deficiency in LIPA results in the activation of hepatic stellate cells and the onset of the fibrotic process. Research indicates that the loss of lipid droplets in the hepatic stellate cells of LIPA-deficient mice is linked to the activation of fibrosis-related proteins.
