Target Information
Bone-specific alkaline phosphatase (BAP), also known as osteoblast-specific alkaline phosphatase, is a glycoprotein found on the surface of osteoblasts-the cells responsible for bone formation. BAP reflects the biosynthetic activity of osteoblasts. Bone-specific alkaline phosphatase (BALP) has been shown to be useful in assessing P adequacy in growing-finishing pigs. The serum concentration of BALP was high when the dietary P supply was low.
