Target Information

The leptin receptor is a receptor for the hormone LEP/leptin. Upon binding with its ligand, it mediates the central and peripheral effects of leptin by activating various signaling pathways, such as JAK2/STAT3 and the MAPK cascade/FOS. In the hypothalamus, leptin serves as an appetite-regulating factor, leading to reduced food intake and increased energy expenditure by promoting anorexigenic factors and inhibiting orexigenic neuropeptides. Additionally, it regulates bone mass and the secretion of hypothalamo-pituitary-adrenal hormones. In mice, leptin receptors perform a wide array of functions, including maintaining energy balance, regulating appetite, modulating immune response, supporting cardiovascular health, and influencing bone metabolism, reproductive function, and intestinal and liver function.
