Target Information
Cluster of Differentiation 40 Ligand (CD40L) is a cytokine that functions as a ligand for CD40/TNFRSF5, promoting T-cell proliferation and cytokine production. Its cross-linking on T-cells provides a costimulatory signal that enhances the production of IL4 and IL10 alongside TCR/CD3 ligation and CD28 costimulation. In mice, CD40L serves several critical roles, including immune regulation, inflammatory response, and anti-infection and anti-tumor effects. Mice lacking CD40L cannot effectively produce antibodies and exhibit selective humoral immune deficiency. When infected with the lymphocytic choriomeningitis virus (LCMV), CD40L-deficient mice display significant defects in T cell-dependent antibody responses.
