Target Information
Insulin receptor substrate 2 (IRS-2) is a signaling adapter protein involved in the signal transduction of insulin receptor (INSR) and insulin-like growth factor I receptor (IGF1R) tyrosine kinases. It is crucial for development, growth, glucose homeostasis, and lipid metabolism. IRS-2 plays a pivotal role in pancreatic β cells by regulating their growth, survival, and function through the insulin and IGF-1 signaling pathways. Mice lacking IRS-2 exhibit reduced pancreatic β cell mass, impaired insulin secretion, and decreased glucose tolerance, ultimately leading to the onset of type 2 diabetes.
