Target Information

Glutathione reductase is essential for sustaining elevated levels of reduced glutathione in the cytosol. In mice, the primary role of glutathione reductase (GR) is to maintain cellular redox balance and shield cells from oxidative stress damage. Glutathione peroxidase (GPx) is another critical antioxidant enzyme in mice, utilizing glutathione (GSH) to convert lipid peroxides and hydroperoxides into their corresponding alcohols, thereby safeguarding cells against oxidative stress. Members of the GPx family, such as GPx1 and GPx4, perform distinct antioxidant roles across various tissues. For instance, GPx4 plays a key role in preventing apoptosis and necrosis in red blood cells.
