Target Information
Endothelial lipase exhibits both phospholipase and triglyceride lipase activities, with a stronger activity as a phospholipase. It can hydrolyze triglycerides with both short-chain (tributyrin) and long-chain (triolein) fatty acyl groups, demonstrating similar activity levels toward both types. In mice, endothelial lipase primarily influences the regulation of HDL cholesterol levels, particle structure, and clearance rate. The activity of endothelial lipase impacts HDL metabolism and is closely linked to the development of atherosclerosis, inflammation, and other cardiovascular diseases. In mice lacking the EL gene, there's a significant increase in HDL cholesterol levels, highlighting the enzyme's crucial role in HDL cholesterol metabolism.
