Target Information
ADH3 is one of the important alcohol metabolism enzymes in mice, especially showing a significant effect when high concentrations of alcohol are consumed. Studies have shown that ADH3 has a dynamic regulatory role in alcohol metabolism, and is activated by increasing the hydrophobicity of hepatocytes, thereby compensating for the reduced activity of ADH1 when high doses of alcohol are consumed. In addition, ADH3 also plays an important role in the non-microsomal oxidation pathway, which is independent of the microsomal ethanol oxidation system (MEOS) and is more significant at high blood alcohol concentrations. ADH3 is not only involved in alcohol metabolism, but also in nitro metabolism, regulating adipogenesis and bone metabolism by catalyzing the denitration reaction of NADPH-dependent cysteine oxidase (GSNOR). This effect is particularly significant in mice with chronic alcohol intake (CAC), and the loss of ADH3 reduces bone density and leads to osteoporosis.
