Target Information
Lipopolysaccharide binding protein (LBP) is a soluble acute-phase protein that binds to bacterial lipopolysaccharide (LPS) to trigger immune responses by presenting LPS to vital cell surface pattern recognition receptors, specifically CD14 and TLR4. In goats, LPS is usually derived from endotoxins that can trigger an inflammatory response by activating Toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4) in the immune system. LBP, by binding to LPS, enhances TLR4 signaling, which promotes the production of inflammatory factors such as tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α). The effects of LPS on the liver and insulin-like growth factor (IGF) system have also received attention in studies in goats.
