Target Information

Beta-glucuronidase is crucial for the breakdown of dermatan and keratan sulfates. In mice, its function extends beyond serving as a marker for gene expression analysis; it also plays roles in disease model research, hormone regulation, and biochemical reactions. In mouse models, β-glucuronidase activity is closely linked to certain genetic disorders. For instance, a genetic defect in mice that resembles human mucopolysaccharidosis type VII (MPS VII) results in significantly reduced β-glucuronidase activity, leading to lysosomal storage disease. Additionally, in mice, the expression of β-glucuronidase is influenced by hormones. Testosterone, for example, can induce the production of β-glucuronidase mRNA in the kidneys, thereby enhancing its activity.
