Target Information
Ryanodine receptor 1 (RYR-1), also known as skeletal muscle calcium release channel or skeletal muscle-type ryanodine receptor, is a protein primarily found in skeletal muscle. Ryanodine Receptor 1 is encoded by the RYR1 gene in pigs. Research has identified a single point mutation in the porcine gene for the skeletal muscle ryanodine receptor (ryr1) that is correlated with malignant hyperthermia (MH) in five major breeds of lean, heavily muscled swine.
