Target Information
Pyruvate Dehydrogenase Phosphatase is a mitochondrial enzyme responsible for the dephosphorylation and reactivation of the alpha subunit of the E1 component of the pyruvate dehydrogenase complex (PDC). This reactivation encourages the conversion of pyruvate to acetyl-CoA. PDP1 serves as a phosphorylation regulator for PDC, activating it through dephosphorylation. This activation promotes the conversion of pyruvate to acetyl-CoA, playing a vital role in the tricarboxylic acid cycle (TCA cycle) and energy metabolism. In mouse embryonic stem cells (mESCs) differentiating into cardiomyocytes, PDP1 expression significantly decreases, leading to reduced mitochondrial function and energy metabolism.
