Target Information

The myeloid cell surface antigen CD33, also known as Sialic Acid Binding Ig Like Lectin 3 (SIGLEC3), is involved in facilitating cell-cell interactions and keeping immune cells in a resting state. It specifically binds sialic acid to the short O-linked glycans of certain mucins. In mice, SIGLEC3 plays a crucial role in regulating microglia function, contributing to the onset and progression of neurodegenerative diseases, and in cancer immunotherapy. In a mouse model of Alzheimer's disease (AD), an increase in SIGLEC3 expression is linked with the accumulation of amyloid β plaques, indicating its potential role in the disease's progression.
