Target Information

Glutathione S-transferase Mu 1 (GSTM1) plays a role in forming glutathione conjugates with prostaglandin A2 (PGA2) and prostaglandin J2 (PGJ2), and is also involved in forming novel hepoxilin regioisomers. GSTM1 serves multiple biological functions in mice, including antioxidation, detoxification, regulation of vascular and brain tissue function, and influencing genetic factors linked to disease susceptibility. GSTM1 primarily protects mice by detoxifying reactive oxygen species (ROS) and external toxic substances. For instance, research has shown that GSTM1 deficiency results in increased oxidative stress in mice, exacerbating kidney damage. In the mouse aorta, GSTM1 also regulates the proliferation and migration of vascular smooth muscle cells (VSMCs). Studies indicate that GSTM1-deficient mice exhibit higher VSMC proliferation rates and faster migration, likely due to elevated oxidative stress levels.
