Target Information

Lysosomal acid glucosylceramidase is an enzyme that catalyzes the hydrolysis of glucosylceramides (GlcCers), including beta-D-glucosyl-(1<->1')-N-acylsphing-4-enine, into free ceramides like N-acylsphing-4-enine and glucose, within the lysosomal compartment. In mice, this enzyme is encoded by the Gba1 gene. The function of acid β-glucosidase in mice is mainly involved in various aspects of sugar metabolism, energy production, and disease development. Changes in its activity may have important effects on physiological functions in mice, especially in the study of metabolic and neurodegenerative diseases.
