Target Information

Calcium/calmodulin-dependent protein kinase type II subunit gamma, after binding with Ca2+/calmodulin and undergoing autophosphorylation, functions autonomously. It is implicated in the transport of Ca2+ within the sarcoplasmic reticulum of skeletal muscle and may play a role in the formation of dendritic spines, synapses, and neuronal plasticity. In slow-twitch muscles, it regulates Ca2+ transport in the sarcoplasmic reticulum (SR), while in fast-twitch muscles, it aids in controlling Ca2+ release from the SR through the phosphorylation of the ryanodine receptor-coupling factor triadin. In mice, the Camk2g gene encodes it.
