Target Information

Complement 1q performs various functions in mice, including roles in immune regulation, inflammatory responses, and neurodegenerative conditions. As a crucial component of the complement system, Complement 1q recognizes and binds to antigens on pathogen surfaces or damaged cells, activating the complement cascade, enhancing inflammatory responses, and facilitating pathogen clearance. For instance, research demonstrates that the complement system and microglia contribute to early synaptic loss in Alzheimer's disease (AD) mouse models by eliminating presynaptic precursors and redundant neurons, which correlates with cognitive decline. In retinal diseases, increased expression of Complement 1q is linked to the loss of retinal ganglion cells (RGCs). In the DBA/2 and C57BL/6 mouse models, heightened expression of Complement 1q precedes widespread RGC death and escalates with age, indicating that complement activation is pivotal in retinal neurodegenerative diseases.
