Target Information

Beta-2-microglobulin is an integral part of the class I major histocompatibility complex (MHC), playing a critical role in presenting peptide antigens to the immune system. In mice, beta-2 microglobulin (β2m) is essential for immune function, particularly in the expression of MHC class I molecules and the activity of CD8+ T cells. As a vital component of MHC class I molecules, β2m helps present viral or self-antigens to CD8+ T cells. Mice deficient in β2m are unable to normally express functional MHC class I molecules, leading to a significant deficiency in CD8+ T cells. This deficiency renders β2m-/- mice resistant to certain diseases, including hypersensitivity reactions and some forms of autoimmune diseases.
