Target Information

Insulin-like 3 (INSL3) appears to be involved in testicular function, particularly as a trophic hormone contributing to testicular descent during fetal development. It acts as a ligand for the LGR8 receptor. In mice, INSL3 is crucial for testicular descent, spermatogenesis, and certain non-reproductive physiological processes, primarily through its interaction with the RXFP2 receptor. INSL3 knockout mice exhibit bilateral cryptorchidism, along with abnormal development of the inguinal suspensory ligament and tunica vaginalis folds, highlighting INSL3's role in facilitating testicular descent by promoting the growth of tunica vaginalis folds. While INSL3 is essential for testicular descent, its impact on spermatogenesis and sperm survival in adult male mice remains unclear.
