Target Information

The steroid hormone receptor ERR1 binds to an ERR-alpha response element (ERRE), which contains a single consensus half-site, 5'-TNAAGGTCA-3'. It can also bind to the medium-chain acyl coenzyme A dehydrogenase (MCAD) response element NRRE-1 and may serve as an important regulator of the MCAD promoter. Moreover, it binds to the C1 region of the lactoferrin gene promoter and requires dimerization along with the coactivator, PGC-1A, for full activity. The ERRalpha/PGC1alpha complex regulates energy metabolism and induces the expression of PERM1 in skeletal muscle. ERα plays a crucial role in mouse reproduction, behavior, metabolism, bone health, cognitive function, and more. Disruption or abnormalities in these functions often lead to significant physiological and behavioral defects.
