Interleukin-25 (IL-25) is a cytokine produced by various cells, including eosinophils, T-helper type 2 (Th2) cells, and epithelial cells. It plays a key role in regulating the internal balance of adaptive immune responses by influencing cytokine production. In mice, IL-25 is crucial for promoting the Th2 immune response, maintaining intestinal barrier function, regulating the development of allergic and autoimmune diseases, and participating in the pathology of various inflammatory and metabolic diseases. Within the mouse intestine, IL-25 is expressed by intestinal epithelial cells, where it supports the integrity of the intestinal barrier and reduces the risk of chronic inflammation by inhibiting the production of proinflammatory cytokines such as IL-17 and IL-12.
