Target Information
DNA repair protein RAD50 is a key part of the MRN complex, which is essential for repairing double-strand breaks (DSBs), DNA recombination, maintaining telomere integrity, and meiosis. The MRN complex repairs DSBs primarily through homologous recombination (HR), an error-free process occurring mainly during the S and G2 phases of the cell cycle. In mice, Rad50 is involved in a variety of critical functions, including the DNA damage response, maintaining genome stability, immune function, reproductive health, and tumor suppression. A deficiency in Rad50 can lead to increased chromosome recombination and genome instability, heightening the risk of cancer. Additionally, mutations or loss of Rad50 function can severely impact the normal operation of mouse embryonic stem cells, resulting in developmental defects and lethality.
