Target Information
Transmembrane Protein 119 (Tmem119) plays a crucial role in bone formation and proper bone mineralization by promoting the differentiation of myoblasts into osteoblasts. In both mice and humans, Tmem119 is specifically expressed in microglia and is widely used to differentiate these cells from other immune cell types. For instance, research has shown that Tmem119 is specifically expressed in microglia within the mouse brain, but not in other neural cells or immune cells such as macrophages and monocytes. Additionally, Tmem119 has been employed to explore the role of microglia in neurodegenerative diseases, brain injuries, and inflammatory responses. For example, after a traumatic brain injury, the expression of Tmem119 decreases, correlating with morphological changes in microglia.
