Target Information
Cholecystokinin receptor type A serves as a receptor for cholecystokinin, facilitating pancreatic growth and enzyme secretion as well as smooth muscle contraction in the gall bladder and stomach. It exhibits a 1000-fold higher affinity for cholecystokinin compared to gastrin. This receptor influences feeding behavior and dopamine-induced responses within the central and peripheral nervous systems. It executes its functions through an association with G proteins, which activate a phosphatidylinositol-calcium second messenger system. As the primary receptor for cholecystokinin (CCK), CCKAR is crucial for muscle contraction in the gallbladder and small intestine in mice. CCKAR plays multiple roles in mice, including regulating gallbladder contraction, influencing cholesterol stone formation, participating in circadian rhythm regulation, and managing physiological processes related to diet and metabolism.
